Grammy-and Emmy-Nominated Trumpeter Greg Adams Performs at the 3rd Annual Summer Smooth Jazz Concert Series
Presented by The Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach
July 24, 1pm-3:30pm

Laguna Beach, CA – Grammy- and Emmy-nominated trumpeter Greg Adams will perform with soul-powered vocalist Darryl Walker at the Festival of Arts Summer Smooth Jazz Concert Series on Saturday, July 24 from 1pm-3:30pm. Adams is a world renowned arranger, composer, conductor and performer has been in the music business for nearly four decades, taking him on worldwide tours and contributing to some of the most important recordings in pop culture. If you enjoy jazz music this is your chance to see a legendary performer live and for FREE with Festival of Arts admission ($7). Sponsored in part by KSBR & Union Bank.

As part of the San Francisco Bay Area music scene since the early 1970’s, Adams creates an intimate relationship when he performs to sold out shows around the world. Greg has made an urbane, soulful and lush recording showcasing the full strength of the rhythm and horn section through his arrangements. As a trumpet player, Adams alternates between a powerful open horn and muted trumpet revealing the breadth and elegance he embodies.
Adams is most well known as a founding member of Tower of Power, one of the most enduring musical entities over the last 35 years. He is legendary for the horn arrangements that created the band’s signature sound. With this band he recorded fourteen albums with the group on four major labels and sold millions of records.

Greg’s 1995 solo debut Hidden Agenda, which featured a remake of Sade’s Smooth Operator, was #1 for five weeks at the top of the Smooth Jazz charts. This album established himself as a major player in the emerging sound of “smooth jazz”. His 2004 solo project FireFly was among the top 100 honored at NAC radio in 2005. Adams’ current project is with East Bay Soul, a combination of instrumental jazz, funk soul and rhythm and blues vocals built on a design to discover new achievements rather than extend the past.

His legendary music has contributed to some of the most important recordings in pop culture. His horn arrangements have been compared to those of Miles Davis and Chet Baker. He has performed, recorded and arranged with artists such as the Rolling Stones, Paul Schaffer, Luther Vandross, Little Feat, Aaron Neville, Everclear, Huey Lewis and the News, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Lyle Lovett and many more. You have heard Greg’s horns with Paul Shaffer on the opening theme of the Late Show with David Letterman and on musical score arrangements in films such as Mask, Top Gun, Austin Powers in Goldmember and Saving Silverman.
