Battle of the Arts
July 20, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Get ready for a showdown like no other as the Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach unveils Battle of the Arts, an all-new event debuting this Sunday, July 20, from 12noon to 3pm. This action-packed afternoon blends visual and musical talent into an unforgettable display of live competition and creative spirit.
Battle of the Arts brings together two thrilling contests: Battle of the Brushes, a live painting face-off featuring exhibiting Festival artists, and the Piano Showdown, a fiery musical performance by acclaimed jazz pianists Scott Wilkie and Tom Zink. Throughout the day, guests will experience art in motion, with live demos happening across the grounds and opportunities to vote for their favorite creations.
The afternoon kicks off at 12noon with Battle of the Brushes, where seven Festival artists will race against the clock to create all-new, original works of art in under 45 minutes. They won’t know what they’ll be painting until the wheel is spun, possible themes include “Treasures of Laguna,” “Animals & Creatures,” or “Everyday Objects.” Emceed by local artist Mike Tauber, audiences will help pick the winner by voting on their favorite piece. The winning artist will be announced at 2:45 p.m. and earn the coveted title of Battle of the Brushes Champion.
From 1 to 2:30pm, the competition moves to the Festival concert stage as chart-topping jazz pianist Scott Wilkie and Grammy-nominated arranger Tom Zink go head to head for a high-energy Piano Showdown, delivering dynamic duets and improvisation on piano and keyboard.
