On Tuesday nights throughout the summer, the Festival of Arts’ roster of world-famous musicians and music aficionados introduce their favorite up and coming performers.
Performer: John Proulx
Introduced by Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated singer/songwriter Melissa Manchester
The jazz scene is abuzz about singer/pianist/composer John Proulx (pronounced “Proo”). His piano playing is hot and swinging, and his voice recalls the smooth, mellow sounds of a young Chet Baker. In fact, John’s 2009 CD on MAXJAZZ, “Baker’s Dozen-Remembering Chet Baker” is a tribute to the late trumpet player and vocalist, featuring trumpet Phenom, Dominick Farinacci. These releases, including John’s 2006 debut CD “Moon and Sand” and his latest “The Best Thing For You” in 2012, have garnered national and international acclaim, and his fan base is quickly growing. In addition to his own trio, John has performed with the likes of Anita O’Day, Melissa Manchester, Michael Feinstein, Natalie Cole, and Marian McPartland. He has emerged as a young talent on the Los Angeles jazz scene and loves the wide-range of opportunities the city has to offer.
