Meet the Instructors

An artist whose life has been guided by many creative pursuits, Tom Swimm began painting at a very young age and developed his painting methods by experimenting with various techniques and by studying the great works of Van Gogh, Hopper, Gaugin, Cezanne and Monet. The work of these artists provided the influence and inspiration that has guided Swimm on his own personal artistic journey.

Born and raised on the East Coast, Tom had a successful career as a commercial advertising artist in New York, then resettled in southern California with his wife and son in 1982. Inspired by the light and landscape of Laguna, he renewed his passion for painting, and was accepted at his first exhibition in the Festival of Arts in 1988.

Mike Tauber is a full-time professional artist specializing in painterly landscapes in tile. He completed his BA Degree in art at San Diego State University in 1985. He worked as an architectural illustrator and muralist throughout the 1990s when he installed commissions in Baja California, Queensland Australia, Rio de Janeiro Brazil, and throughout the western United States.

In the mid-2000’s, he expanded into the ceramic tile medium for projects at public locations and exteriors. His tiles have been selected for the prestigious juried show at the Museum Gallery of Yosemite National Park, annually 2012-2015. Taubers multi-award winning work has been commissioned by, or is in the collection of, Festival of Arts-Laguna Beach, Kaiser Permanente, Whole Foods Markets, San Diego Airport, City of Laguna Beach, City of Tustin, PIMCO Foundation, and many more.
