“Not replicating while keeping fidelity with the subject through expressive brushwork allows the viewer to participate vicariously in the energy of the works creation.”
After receiving an Art degree from Cal State University Long Beach, Bruce was “distracted” making a living in endeavors unrelated to art. Still he kept a sketchbook for those all too few spare moments. That all changed when he was able to retire early and follow the creative desire to paint full time. He has participated in the Festival of Arts ever since.
His choices for primarily using the figure are the many attitudes, movements and implied narratives that can be depicted through the continuing effort to understand the human form. His influences range from late nineteenth century artists like Sargent to fashion illustration and abstract figurative work including Diebenkorn and many other contemporary artists.
His work is celebrity owned and in private collections here and abroad.
