ARTIST STATEMENT

“Portraying life-like movement and essence that reflects my life’s camera, I define my artistic style as one that evokes feeling and thought, emits a mood, and stirs the emotions.”

ARTIST BIO

David started drawing at the young age of five; and, with no formal education his natural talent evolved, progressing into ink and then oils. Growing up in Southern California, David spent many years surfing but had to swing a hammer to pay the bills. At 35, he took a 10-year hiatus from drawing and pursued his other passion in life: music & songwriting. During that time, he wrote nearly 400 songs and only completed one oil painting, which he credits his non-traditional schooling in oils to the more than 2,000 hours he spent completing that particular painting.

Today, David’s style reflects his passion for art on his quest to do flawless pieces. He specializes in intricate drawings in colored pencil, graphite, ink, silver point and sanguine on toned paper, as well as oil paintings on linen. Many of David’s original drawings take hundreds of hours to complete, and his mediums leave no margin for error.  Traveling has brought aspiration to share the moments he experiences into his art studio; while, David also continues his work on a series of fine drawings celebrate the charm of Laguna Beach, where he resides.

Kizziar’s continuous desire for knowledge and eye for perspective, has refined his natural artistic gift of portraying life-like movement and essence. David defines his artistic style as one that evokes feelings and thought which emit a mood that reflects life’s camera and inspire people to feel something. Moved by lighting, composition, and his love for the technique of the Master’s, David is determined to create every day to elevate the beauty of art by conveying his passion for life.

Collectors often are captivated by the gentleness and realistic interpretations of a subject that David creates that makes them feel like they are right there in the moment as the artist himself was; oftentimes, eliciting an unexpected outward emotional and sometimes tearful response.

His work has been exhibited internationally and he is a Juried Artist member of prestigious organizations such as the Festival of Arts, the California Art Club, American Society of Marine Artists, the International Guild of Realism, and Dana Point Fine Arts Association. Additionally, David is an active member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, the Sawdust Art Festival, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and the Allied Artist of America.
