ARTIST STATEMENT

“Nature is full of interesting subjects with wonderful textures and character that I hope to bring to the viewer through art.”

ARTIST BIO

Dori grew up in Huntington Beach, where music and art filled her home.

She would often accompany her father to local art shows where he would exhibit his paintings. This is where her interest in art began, though she admits her sole motivation at that time was just to paint better than her older sister. At twelve years old she had a drawing entered in the Festival of Arts Junior Art exhibit, and at fifteen sold her first painting.

After graduating from Orange Coast College, Dori went on to pursue a career in graphic design and illustration. Her interest in nature began to grow and the need for better reference photos sparked a new passion for travel and photography. Africa and central America are some of her favorite places to frequent and she enjoys entering photo exhibitions as well. Drawing remains her first love, and she finds working in graphite and scratchboard as rewarding as they are challenging. Drawn to different textures and character of her subjects, Dori’s goal is to share these with her viewers and hopes they will come away with a new appreciation for nature’s subtle details that often go unnoticed.
