ARTIST STATEMENT
“In my recent oil paintings, I celebrate our natural, exterior world in order to illuminate interior, emotional states. The work inquires into the space between the empirical and theoretical—evoking serenity and tranquility despite impending change.”
ARTIST BIO
Eric Gerdau earned his BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and was recipient of the European Honors Program where he spent a year of study abroad in Rome, Italy. His education culminated in receiving the Guggenheim Award for Painting. After graduating from RISD, he began his professional practice in New York City exhibiting paintings, mixed media, installation, and photography. His work has also been informed by perspectives encountered in working travels, residencies, and exhibits in Europe and Asia. Gerdau currently draws inspiration from Southern California where he maintains a studio gallery in Laguna Beach. His interpretations of ocean horizons, mixed media, fiber arts and drawings are exhibited in galleries, museums, and collected and commissioned by private collectors internationally.
