ARTIST STATEMENT

“My paintings explore the body as a poetic composition. I aim to create introspective, sensual works of the male figure, inspired by my experience as both an observer and participant in the sport of diving.”

ARTIST BIO

Eric Theodore is a figurative painter originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. He received his bachelor’s in Studio Art in 2015 from Centre College in Kentucky. He relocated to Texas for the Navasota Artist Residency and spent several years as a public school teacher. In 2022 he moved to California for graduate school at Laguna College of Art + Design and began diving with the Mission Viejo Nadadores. Upon receiving his MFA in Painting in 2024, he won the Trustee’s Choice Award, two of his paintings were bought by the school, and he was awarded the first postgraduate Artist-in-Residence at LCAD.
