ARTIST BIO
Gavin Heath began glassblowing at Palomar College in 1987, studying under Val Sanders and Barry Reed. He attended Pilchuck Glass School in 1988, where he studied with Thurman Statom, and worked as an assistant at John Barber’s studio from 1988 to 1989. Heath later studied at Cal State Fullerton with Jon Stokesbery and Don Petty. During this time, he began experimenting with enameling created his first tribal dolls, inspired by the Ndebele people, and debuted them at the Sawdust Festival. His assignment at Fullerton was to explore these tribal sculptures further for critique.
