ARTIST STATEMENT
“My art explores color, light, and form through layered glass and fluid composition. I draw from natural rhythms and organic patterns, transforming them into luminous, immersive experiences that balance tradition with a contemporary voice.”
ARTIST BIO
Johnny Glass is a Southern California–based glass artist and educator working at the intersection of tradition and contemporary expression. He is the founder of Glass by Glass LLC, a mobile hotshop designed to carry the heat, movement, and spectacle of glassblowing beyond the studio and into shared public space.
He holds a BFA in Glass from Tennessee Technological University’s Appalachian Center for Craft and an MFA from Tulane University, where his work explored the shifting boundary between form and function. His practice has since evolved into a pursuit of light, rhythm, and fluidity—where color moves, lines breathe, and form feels momentarily suspended in motion.
Working in Laguna Beach with Gavin Heath Studio, Johnny creates both sculptural and functional work while maintaining a deep commitment to performance-based practice. As a resident demonstrating artist at Knott’s Berry Farm and a participant in the Sawdust Winter Fantasy Festival, he engages thousands of viewers each year, transforming process into experience and inviting audiences into the fleeting, luminous moment when molten glass becomes form.
At the core of his work is a belief that glass is not fixed, but alive—shaped by breath, gravity, and time, holding within it both intention and chance. Each piece becomes a record of movement, a balance between control and release, tradition and reinvention.
Johnny lives in Huntington Beach with his wife and family.
