ARTIST BIO

“When an endangered species looks into my heart with their intense eyes, I am more than happy to go to my easel to tell their story!”

Judith Haron up in Denver Colorado where her love of nature began. Her work centers upon endangered wildlife and embraces the cultural indigenous dream folklore. She honors the origin of each species while highlighting global environmental issues that Earth faces today.

Her background began with a BFA in illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She began her career as a textile designer for the garment industry. Furthering her art foundational training she attended the MFA Fine Art program at the Laguna College of Art and Design. She furthered her art foundation at Grand Central Atelier in New York. She is an award winning artist based in Laguna Beach California and has exhibited at the acclaimed Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach since 2014. She has won numerous juried exhibition awards both locally and within the United States.

Her medium of choice is an early Renaissance medium of egg tempera, gold leaf water gilding, and calligraphy. She became enthralled with the beautiful history of the Illuminated Manuscript. The artisan materials of egg tempera paints, calligraphy, and water gilding with its vast history from the 13th to the 15th century across nations became her passion. She shares her emotional interpretation of indigenous cultural storytelling, while honoring the endangered species and their habitats in her original narratives!

Her original representational manuscripts are created with the authentic mediums that were the cornerstone of the Illuminated Manuscript. The Egg Tempera paints are made by hand. Dried colored grounds are tempered into the contents of an egg with a glass muller tool used for binding the ingredients together. The egg medium adds a distilled alcohol for preserving and artist’s walnut oil to lengthen the drawing time and aid in the paints fluidity. Water Gilding is used for the raised gold leaf calligraphy and her decorative boarders. The mediums have remarkably remained true to their original preparation.

Her goal as a artist is to create a serious of illuminated representational narratives, with original poetry and historical decorative boarders inspired by indigenous cultures who honor all living species and their natural resources in dreamlike storytelling. Her hope is that her endeavors will resonate with a universal message of hope to aid in conservational awareness to preserve Earth’s most precious resources!
