ARTIST BIO
Karen Boyd is a jewelry artist whose work is deeply inspired by the coastal landscapes and wildlife of Southern California. With a formal art education from California Polytechnic State University and Otis Parsons School of Design, she brings both technical foundation and intuitive creativity to her practice. Living near the foothills and within reach of the Pacific Ocean, she draws constant inspiration from the natural world—especially the quiet, often overlooked moments of animals moving through their environments.
Working primarily in sterling silver, copper and bronze, Boyd creates one-of-a-kind wearable sculptures that blur the line between jewelry and fine art. Her designs frequently feature animals such as horses, birds, turtles, coyotes and deer, each carefully crafted to capture not only their form but their spirit and movement. Through hand fabrication techniques, she shapes and textures metal to evoke motion—flowing water, wind through grasses, or the gentle drift of ocean currents.
Natural stones are integral to her work. Boyd incorporates materials such as aquamarine, quartz, larimar, and other gemstones, selecting each for its color, energy, and connection to the scenes she creates. These stones act as focal points, bringing light, contrast, and depth while often symbolizing elements like water, sky, and earth.
