“My watercolor images take advantage of the power of objects to tell stories. They are small narrations – reflections on my life, and the dreams and the wishes we all have.”
ARTIST BIO
Kirsten Whalen is a native Californian, born and raised in Sacramento. She holds degrees in Design from University of California, Davis, and Fine Art Painting and Drawing from Laguna College of Art + Design. After several working as a graphic designer in publishing, she re-focused her creative efforts to work on her own ideas in watercolor and mixed media. The imagery in Kirsten’s work focuses on the familiar objects of our time, and her compositions tap into the power these objects have to tell stories. Her background in the graphic arts is still evident in her compositions and narrative style.
Kirsten’s work can be found in private collections locally and across the US. She has won awards in the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and shown in regional exhibitions. She is an Artist member of the California Art Club and has been an exhibitor and active participant in the Festival of Arts since 2008.
Kirsten and her husband live here in Laguna Beach, and are very active in the local arts and education community. Her husband, Bob, is currently on the Laguna Beach City Council.
