ARTIST STATEMENT
“My theme for these works is ‘A Dialogue with Nature.’ I am inspired by mankind’s existence side by side with the simple beauty of trees and flowers. The images I have used come from my frequent travels in Japan and California.”
ARTIST BIO
Mariko Ishii was born and educated in Yokohama, Japan. After graduating from Ferris University in Japan, she studied art at Saddleback College. She has had annual solo exhibitions in Japan for the past 15 years and juried exhibitions around Southern California for over 27 years.
She is a member of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society (LAPS). Mariko was selected as an exhibitor by LAPS at the 19th National Juried Exhibition in 2007 and the Arts Escondido Museum in Escondido. Among many of her achievements, notable awards are Honorable Mention from the Urban Landscape Juried Exhibition at Long Beach Arts, Best in the Show in 1990, 1st Place in 2005, and 2nd place in 2010 at Saddleback College’s Juried Student Art Exhibition, First Place at Orange County Fair 2006 and “Shusaku” Award 2008 , “Tokusen” Award 2009 at the “International Art Mirai Exhibition” in Japan ”Juror’s Choice Award’ at the Ink and Clay 40 at the W.Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery in 2014.
