ARTIST BIO

Marjan Rajaei is a contemporary visual artist born and raised in Shiraz, Iran—a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage, poetry, and artistic legacy. Growing up in such a historically and artistically vibrant environment played a significant role in shaping her artistic vision and sensitivity from an early age.

She was born into an art-loving and creatively inclined family, where artistic expression was deeply valued. One of the earliest and most influential figures in her life was her uncle, a professional painter whose dedication and skill left a lasting impression on her. In addition, her sister, Katy—whom Marjan deeply admires and proudly acknowledges—has been a constant source of inspiration and learning throughout her journey.

Her father, an enthusiastic antique collector, introduced her to the beauty of objects rich in history and craftsmanship. His passion exposed her to the aesthetic value of traditional art and cultural artifacts, nurturing her appreciation for detail and meaning. Both of her parents encouraged creativity from a young age, supporting their children in exploring artistic paths. This encouragement allowed Marjan to discover her passion for painting early in life.

As she grew older in Shiraz, her interest in art became more serious and intentional. Throughout her childhood and school years, she consistently attended painting classes and remained deeply committed to developing her artistic skills. Painting gradually became more than a hobby—it became a vital form of expression and a defining part of her identity.

A turning point in her artistic development came when she began studying under Ms. Mohasses, an accomplished artist who completed her education at the prestigious Beaux-Arts University in France and later taught at the University of Tehran. Under her professional guidance, Marjan pursued painting with greater discipline and depth, refining her technique and strengthening her conceptual understanding of art.

During this period, she participated in multiple exhibitions in Shiraz, showcasing her work in recognized venues such as Bagh-e Melli and Vesal Gallery. These exhibitions marked her growing presence in the local art scene and provided her with valuable experience in presenting her work to the public. She also expanded her reach internationally by participating in group exhibitions in China, alongside other artists.

While exploring various artistic approaches, Marjan developed a deep appreciation for traditional Persian painting, known as Negargari (Persian miniature art). Fascinated by its intricate detail, symbolism, and cultural richness, she began studying this style under the guidance of a close friend and mentor. Her connection to this art form grew stronger over time, eventually leading her to discover a sense of belonging within it.

This journey resulted in the development of her unique artistic style—a fusion of modern painting and traditional Persian miniature techniques. By combining these two worlds, Marjan creates works that are both contemporary and deeply rooted in cultural heritage. Her art reflects a dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation, offering viewers a layered and meaningful visual experience.

Her works often explore themes of identity, emotion, and cultural memory, expressed through delicate details and thoughtful compositions. Each piece invites the viewer into a space of reflection, where personal and collective narratives intertwine.

In 2024, Marjan Rajaei relocated to the United States, opening a new chapter in her artistic journey. This transition introduced her to a new cultural landscape and a broader artistic community, providing fresh inspiration and new opportunities for growth.

In 2026, she participated in the Festival of Art, where she had the opportunity to exhibit her work and connect with artists from diverse backgrounds. She values these experiences as an essential part of her development, allowing her to exchange ideas and expand her artistic perspective.

Today, Marjan Rajaei continues to evolve as an artist, guided by her passion for storytelling through visual art and her dedication to bridging cultures through her work. Her journey—from Shiraz to the international art scene—reflects a commitment to growth, exploration, and authenticity.
