ARTIST STATEMENT
“My newest artworks explore my own perceptions of almighty nature. I use abstract vibrant colors in patterns, and layered paper collage. I hope to connect with viewers and inspire new interpretations of my abstract scenes.”
ARTIST BIO
Paige Oden’s longtime artistic style has been defined as “narrative scene painting”, capturing iconic local scenes and moments in carefully orchestrated oil paint. But this year, Oden’s work has evolved dramatically toward colorful abstract loose compositions that combine paint, paper collage, layered patterns and expressive mark-making. This shift in Oden’s chosen imagery marks a significant departure from decades of meticulous representational painting and reflects a new creative direction driven by exploration, intuition, and artistic freedom.
Oden is very drawn to expressive unstructured brushwork, textured surfaces, and recurring shapes and patterns, and she uses these elements to construct visual narratives that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Oden holds an MFA in Drawing and Painting and she has exhibited with the FOA for nearly 25 years. Her work is included in numerous collections, including the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University. PaigeOden.com
