ARTIST STATEMENT

“I celebrate and paint Laguna’s iconic beauty and traditions. While the city has evolved, it offers a beautiful life. I cherish quiet moments, like surfers at crosswalks, neighbors chatting on benches, and dogs chasing seagulls.”

ARTIST BIO

Paige Oden’s goal in her paintings is to capture a moment in time, the memory of the experience. She grew up on the beaches of Orange County before it was called the OC. She loves documenting the daily beach life of Orange County as it was lived in the 70s, 80s, and onward. Paige searches for quiet beautiful moments carved out by intense Southern California sunlight. She uses the figure to tell her stories because, regardless of backgrounds, people understand the visual language of the human form. She hopes her paintings evoke positive memories for others too.

Paige works in layers; she draws with archival ink first and then paints in transparent oils. She loves that her drawings still show through in the painting. Holding an MFA in Painting, Paige has been showing at the FOA periodically for nearly 25 years. She is proud that her paintings are in many important collections, most recently the Hilbert Art Museum at Chapman University. Paige is most proud of her collaborations with the American Cancer Society designs, City of Hope Art Collection, and her role as the Director of Visual Arts at the Orange County School of the Arts.
