“My deeply symbolic Magic Realism paintings blend allegory with realism, creating a dreamlike world where anything is possible. They are fairy tales for grown ups designed to evoke mystery and stir the soul.”
Award-winning artist Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Bond’s art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and allegorical elements with realistic atmospheres. Often whimsical and lighthearted, most also carry deeper philosophical messages. Bringing to life the world of our dreams, hopes and desires.
Altering and juxtaposing familiar objects gives Bond the symbols that are his visual language. As he shares, “When viewing or reading anything that moves me, my mind’s eye is continually imagining what elements I could introduce or alter to make a grander statement about what I am experiencing. The challenge is never lack of inspiration – my imagination is flooded with ideas – so creation is often more of an editing process.”
Bond’s work has been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including the Gateway Museum, NM and the San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, as well as in Australia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Corporate collections include Valley Children’s Hospital in Modesto, CA, Scripps Hospitals, the Hotel Hershey and also recently featured on an NBC set design.
