ARTIST STATEMENT

“To create works of beauty that connect deeply with people as skillfully and as honestly as I can.”

ARTIST BIO

Pil was born in Seoul, South Korea. Having a father who was a gifted artist, he naturally developed a love for art.

When Pil was nine years old, his family immigrated to the US, settling in Los Angeles. As an immigrant, he found drawing to be a language immediately accessible with his classmates. During those early grade school years, Ms Isavich, an art instructor kindled his growing love. Recognizing his gift, she often pulled him out of class for special art sessions with a handful of other students.

Pil decided on a career in graphic design, earning his BFA in Visual Communications at Cal State Long Beach. For 20 years he worked in advertising and design as an art director and designer.

In 2010, an artist friend and mentor challenged him to devote time and energy to painting. This encouragement along with his thoughts on the artist’s role in the exaltation of transcendent truth and beauty has helped Pil define himself as an artist.

Pil lives in Orange, California with his wife and daughter.
