ARTIST STATEMENT
“Ceramic pieces are born from the elemental forces of earth, fire, water, and air. I mold these forces into objects of strength and beauty.”
ARTIST BIO
Ceramic artist Sharon Jackman has shown her work in galleries and art festivals throughout the western United States since 2005. An exhibitor at the Festival of Arts for eight years, Sharon’s pieces capture nature’s vibrancy and intensity. By carving the clay, her sculptures frequently incorporate movement and imagery — a surging wave, swaying tree branch, or rising moon.
Smooth white porcelain provides the ideal surface to showcase the depth and brilliance of Sharon’s crystalline glazes. The motion of her designs combined with the radiance of her glazes allows Sharon to isolate these moments in nature.
Beginning her career in modern dance and choreography, Sharon manipulated form and design in time and space. Her ceramic work became a natural extension of that passion. Both the physicality and multi-dimensional requirements of each art form appeal to her, as well as the creative challenges and constant evolution they demand.
Sharon holds a master’s degree from the University of Illinois and trained at the Irvine Fine Arts Center.
