ARTIST STATEMENT

“My still life paintings combine observation with improvisation. I explore light, color, and intentionally thick painterly brushstrokes, using composition to create strong, graphic shapes. Wayne Thiebaud is a catalyst for my own practice.”

ARTIST BIO

Sherry Pollack Walker is an artist based in Newport Beach, California, and Rossland, British Columbia. Raised in New York City, she began her formal art education at the Brooklyn Museum, studying under Ron Mehlman, and went on to earn a BFA from the Boston University School of Fine Arts.

Following her fine arts training, Pollack Walker built a distinguished career in advertising, rising to senior vice president and creative director at international agencies. Her work included high-profile global clients such as Jaguar, BMW, Ford, Lincoln/Mercury, and Sony.

At Young & Rubicam, she helped lead a notable partnership between Lincoln and Vanity Fair, designing custom inserts for the magazine’s Hollywood issues.

After decades in advertising, she returned fully to painting, reconnecting with her foundation in observation, drawing, and sustained looking. Her practice emphasizes patience and concentration, resisting generalization in favor of nuanced perception. She is particularly interested in color, shape, light, space, and brushstroke as formal problems explored through careful adjustment.

Pollack Walker is currently an active participant at the Art Students League of New York and serves on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Art Foundation of Orange County.
