ARTIST STATEMENT

“I am presenting both whimsical, occasionally metaphorical ink and watercolor drawings and traditional plein air watercolor. I am doing work that reveals what I think as well as work that responds to what I see.”

ARTIST BIO

Steve Bjorkman is a Southern California native and has enjoyed a long history in both the Festival of Arts (off and on since 1979) and as an illustrator of greeting cards, ads, magazines and over one hundred picture books. A keen observer and constant sketcher of people and places, Steve creates art in two different styles. His whimsical ink and watercolor drawings and his immediate plein air watercolor work are both shown in the 2026 Festival of Arts. In all of his art, Steve’s guiding values are to use fiction to tell the truth, whimsy to point to hope, and to elevate the often underrecognized people and places he encounters.
