Performer: Anne Walsh

From Bossa to Bacharach

We lost one of the American song books greatest composers this year, Burt Bacharach. This performance showcases some of his most beautiful music along with other classics that parallel his most prolific era. Arranged by Grammy nominated pianist Tom Zink, and featuring Anne Walsh and some of LA’s top musicians. Many of Bacharach’s most memorable pieces have been performed in the Bossa Nova style, and his approach to contemporary writing influenced many of the top performers in that genre. Walsh and her musicians will create a tapestry of their favorite Bacharach songs with some Brazil 66, and Astrud Gilberto favorites in this romantic show.  Featuring classics such as “I Say A Little Prayer”, “Alfie”, “One Less Bell”, and other classics from the era. With Mitchell Long; Guitar, Hussain Jiffry; Bass, Kevin Winard; Drums.

Anne Walsh has been performing in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas for over a decade, and has headlined at such diverse venues as The Jazz Bakery, The Carpenter Performing Art Center, Spaghettinis and The Derby. Her sound? …A sultry night in Rio, a sunny day in Brazil. Contemporary jazz, Brazilian jazz, The Great American Standards song book, smooth airy vocals. New interpretations of classics from Sergio Mendes and Norah Jones to George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Harmonically rich, but always grooving.

Her 2009 release “Pretty World,” received a Grammy nomination in the category “Best Arrangement For Singer”. “Pretty World” includes the music of such jazz luminaries as Keith Jarrett, Sergio Mendez, and Don Grolnick. Carrying on in a contemporary jazz vein, Anne and husband Tom released “Go” in 2011 – an eclectic soundscape of contemporary and Brazilian jazz influences, which features originals, as well as a new take on the classic Wayne Shorter tune “Go”. Their 3rd album entitled “Brand New” features several original compositions including the title track Brand New, as well as “lyricized” versions of classic jazz and Brasilian jazz pieces and beautifully orchestrated classics like “Windmills of You Mind”, “Here There and Everywhere”, and “To Sir With Love”.

Her musicians are the finest in LA including her pianist husband Tom Zink who tour and record with such notables as Michael Buble, Herb Alpert, Sergio Mendes, Marc Anthony.
