Laguna Beach’s Poet Laureate, Kate Buckley, will offer a free poetry workshop for adults exploring storytelling in poetry on the Festival of Arts Grounds on Friday, August 25th at 11am.

Of all the poetic forms, narrative poetry most closely approximates the classic three act structure. And at the heart of all poetry is story. An effective narrative poem implicates the reader in plot—carrying us along till the very last line. And a poem does not have to be long to do this well. We will discuss a brief overview of narrative poetry (poetry that tells a story), as well as explore the broader purpose of storytelling in poetry. We will also discuss specific techniques, forms and examples, and then we will create our own narrative poem. Participants should bring their own journal/notepad and pen.

This workshop is is funded by the lodging establishments and City of Laguna Beach. Please see KateBuckley.com for more information.
