ARTIST STATEMENT

“I paint ordinary people in abstract settings using acrylic paint. Though I occasionally paint on canvas, I prefer wood panels for their durability. My inspiration comes from vintage, borrowed, and my own collection of photographs.”

ARTIST BIO

Antoinette (Toni) Barnum is a painter based in Capistrano Beach, California. At an early age Antoinette knew she would become an artist. She studied art at Framingham State University in Massachusetts, where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts.

Antoinette spent what would have been her senior year in college living and traveling in Europe, in and out of museums and exploring ancient history. Most of her time there was spent in Italy and Germany, and after ten months she returned home to Massachusetts to complete her studies at Framingham.

Antoinette moved to southern California in 1979 and on to Orange County in 2005 where she continued to sharpen her painting skills at Saddleback College while raising he family.

Art has always been a center of Antoinette’s life, painting daily to improve her craft. Her style has evolved from being primarily realistic to painting realistic subjects into an abstract world. She is inspired by everyday people living their lives, and she paints their story.

When she’s not in her studio, Antoinette may be found volunteering as a Gardening Angel at Mission San Juan Capistrano, walking the neighborhood, or playing with her grandchildren.
