ARTIST STATEMENT
“I hope to elicit a mood, a memory, a feeling, a dream when viewers engage with my paintings. The plein air style is inspiring to me whether I’m painting from life or in the studio.”
ARTIST BIO
During childhood, art class sparked Becky’s affinity for painting and taught her the value of practice. After painting casually for many years, she became more intentional to advance her goals: earning an associate degree in fine art, entering contests, and showing in galleries.
Seeking to immerse the viewer into a scene, she employs confident value contrast and robust color saturation to create bold liveliness. Becky paints in the studio and en plein air, employing the dynamic fluidity and transparency of watercolor. The California impressionist and early plein air styles, and the contemporary plein air movement, resonate with her artistically, culturally, and historically.
Becky finds endless inspiration in the California coastline, canyons, trails, and desert.
Becky has studied with numerous renowned artists through workshops, classes, and mentorships. She is grateful for the camaraderie of her weekly watercolor studio group and all-media plein air groups.
