ARTIST STATEMENT

“As far back as I can remember, I have been fascinated with ‘line.’ As a result, the main body of my work consists of ‘continuous line’ representations of both the human and architectural forms.”

ARTIST BIO

Jeff Hurlbut is a lifelong resident of San Clemente California. During the 1970’s he attended San Diego State University, where he benefitted from numerous insightful and passionate art professors. One such insightful professor introduced Jeff to the genius of Austrian expressionist, Egon Schiele. From that moment on, whether it be representing the human form, or drawing on his fascination with elements of architecture, Jeff became obsessed with the pursuit of capturing subject matter with a minimal amount of visual information. As a life-long learner, Jeff has been an active student in the study of the human form in both the classroom as well as private studios throughout the southland for over 5 decades. His unique continuous-line technique, combined with watercolor washes, is self-taught and derived through countless hours of experimentation.
