ARTIST STATEMENT

“Contemplating the beauty of a scene, I paint in an impressionist style putting oil on canvas with loose brushwork and vivid color. Interpreting the light and atmosphere creates the color and mood of a subject.”

ARTIST BIO

Kathleen Robison is a contemporary impressionist painter focused on landscapes, seascapes and figures with an emphasis on the California coast. Born in Los Angeles, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts along with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies degrees from Cal State Fullerton. After college, Kathleen worked in the graphic arts industry.

After taking her first plein air workshop in Laguna Beach, Kathleen fell in love with painting outdoors. When she is out painting the landscape, she feels a particular freedom and in touch with the vastness of creation. She uses quick, outdoor sketches as reference material for creating larger paintings in the studio.

Focusing on landscapes and seascapes provides Kathleen with endless subject matter, in particular, the beauty of the California coast, a subject she has dedicated her professional career to exploring. Essentially, her art is a salute to the sublimity of nature, an acknowledgement of the joy of creating, and a tribute to the lasting legacy of Impressionism as one way to view the world around us.

Kathleen is an award-winning painter and has been in many juried exhibitions and private collections. Kathleen has participated in many Art Festivals throughout California. She has exhibited at Studio 7 Gallery in Laguna Beach for the last 22 years.
