ARTIST STATEMENT

ARTIST BIO

Pilar combines her artistic and creative background as a graphic artist for a leading motorsports company, with her love of capturing time and emotions through a lens.

She was born and raised in Santiago, Chile, where as a young girl, her love for the arts developed. In 2008, a trip to Paris re-ignited a love affair for photography while capturing endless images full of street life and stories at every turn. Since that trip, she has traveled the world and backpacked remote landscapes with her camera. What began as a hobby, quickly became a passion.

As a Photographer, she’s self-taught, having learned her craft through personal research and practical experience behind the camera. Her photography approach to her current architectural work is not a recording of the reality in front of her but an interpretation and a recreation of that reality in her unique visual expression. By processing her images by understanding how light interacts with geometrical shapes and details, and knowing how to use the power of light, shadow, and contrast to create an image she imagines in her mind and soul. Just like what illustrators and painters do in their drawings and paintings, which is influencing the perception of the viewer by emphasizing certain parts of the image and creating an almost three-dimensional look and a unique visual interpretation.

Her work has been on exhibit in several shows, galleries and permanent private collections since 2013. This will be Pilar’s 6th year as an exhibitor at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts.
